Christie Block  Speech-Language Pathologist

About Christie Block

Christie Block, MA, MS, CCC-SLP is a licensed and board-certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who is a committed advocate of the transgender community. She is one of the few SLPs in private practice whose work is primarily focused on speech/voice training for transpeople. Christie's interest in transgender voice and gender expression developed out of her background in language and gender studies. In addition to providing one-on-one voice testing/training, Christie actively gives presentations in the transgender community, leads a monthly Femme Voice Workshop, and is currently developing voice feminization software.

When she is not doing transgender voice, Christie works as a speech, voice, and swallowing specialist, including professional voice, speech/accent, stuttering, public speaking, and neurogenic disorders. She has more than 15 years of experience as a teacher/therapist/trainer of voice, speech, ESL, and linguistics. She collaborates with a number of otolaryngologists (head & neck surgeons) in Manhattan, including Jordan Stern, Stacey Silvers, Jamie Koufman, David Godin, and Jonathan Aviv, some of whom perform pitch-raising surgery. Christie currently teaches speech and voice at New York University.

Christie holds a Bachelor's degree in Asian Languages and Literature (Mandarin Chinese), and two Master's degrees in Linguistics and Communication Disorders. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the New York Voice Study Group, Extramural Laryngeal Rounds, the Columbia University-based Working Group on Gender, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
